Police officers removed from city payroll after joyriding incident

Three officers from the Glendale Police Department in California have been fired after a weeks-long misconduct investigation, according to the Glendale News-Press. City sources confirm that the officers took a patrol car on a joyride to Las Vegas. However, officials have refused to publicly discuss details of the case.

"They are no longer employees," city spokesman Tom Lorenz told the news source. "They are no longer on the payroll for the city."

Officials are continuing to look into numerous claims of officer misconduct, including sexual solicitation, an off-duty road rage incident and an affair with the wife of a man who was arrested. At least six officers have been put on leave as a result of the investigation. Depending on the nature and severity of the claims, they could face disciplinary actions including suspension, demotion, termination, mandatory employee assistance or rehabilitation.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the department has recently implemented a new software program in order to better track officer misconduct reports, in addition to work hours and other personnel matters.
