In what is an example of how the lack of a trusted
payroll processing service can affect one's business, the Cleveland public school district watched one of its former employees be indicted for stealing money from the district's
payroll fund. WKYC-TV reports that Janice Pink-King, who served as the director of Employee Services Payroll, faces 17 charges after she allegedly stole nearly $19,000.
The news station reports that Cuyahoga County prosecutors found Pink-King had stolen funds during a near two-year period between March 2005 and December 2006. She resigned from the school district in March 2009 after 30 years on the job.
WKYC reports that prosecutors found she operated a payroll scam that included obtaining early advances and then paying herself back from money previously approved through the payroll system. During that 21-month period, Pink-King supposedly reimbursed herself the amount taken from her paycheck for the retirement fund.
The case against the former Cleveland school district employee reinforces the need for a trustworthy payroll service that will prevent such theft and ensure that funds are properly distributed through a secure network.
