North Dakota men arrested for attempting to cash counterfeit check

Two men face potential felony charges after one allegedly attempted to cash a fraudulent payroll check at a bank in Jamestown, North Dakota, according to the Jamestown Sun.

Terry L. Fisher was arrested while in possession of the check - which was made out for almost $2,000 - as well as a copy of another counterfeit check that he had previously deposited. Joseph M. Kottenbrock, who had accompanied Fisher to the bank and was waiting outside in a van, fled the scene but was apprehended soon afterwards.

Both men were charged with criminal conspiracy to commit theft, and Kottenbrock faces additional charges of forgery or counterfeiting and theft of property. All of the charges are class C felonies that are punishable by a maximum sentence of five years in prison and/or a fine of $5,000.

Two women were also recently arrested for allegedly cashing counterfeit payroll checks at a check cashing business in the northern Florida city of Marianna, according to the Jackson County Floridian. Tymisha Freeman and Tanisha Cook have been charged with grand theft and uttering a forged instrument.
