New York village's public works chief erroneously receives extra overtime

The village of Mamaroneck in Westchester County, New York, was recently found to have paid the chief of its Department of Public Works more than $150,000 in overtime that he was not authorized to receive, according to the Lower Hudson Journal.

The payroll processing error, which was uncovered during a budget review, resulted in overpayment for at least the last six years. Between 2004 and 2010, overtime made up more than 25 percent of Tony Iacovelli's annual earnings, according to payroll records obtained by the news source.

"There should have been a more strenuous fiscal review of what should and should not be paid out," said Mamaroneck Mayor Norm Rosenblum.

Ryla Teleservices in Clovis, California, is having the opposite problem of the Westchester County village - two of the company's employees are suing for unpaid overtime wages on behalf of themselves and others under the Fair Labor Standards Act, according to the Central Valley Business Times.

Three similar lawsuits have previously been filed against the company by employees at its call centers in Georgia, Alabama and Indiana, according to the news source.
